Prof. Yam is Chairman of the Building Discipline Advisory Panel of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers; member of the Accreditation Advisory Board (AAB); Chairman of the AAB Working Party on Construction Materials Testing and the AAB Working Party on Accreditation of Inspection Bodies; member of the AAB Working Party on Strategic Development and Policy; member of the Assessment Panels for the Public Policy Research Funding Scheme & Strategic Public Policy Research Funding Scheme; and member of the Assessment Panel for Competitive Research Funding Schemes for the Local Self-financing Degree Sector of the Research Grants Council.

Prof. Yam is a Fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers, The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and The Hong Kong Institute of Construction Managers.
