Ms. Clarice Yu Po-mei is the former Director of Buildings of the Hong Kong SAR Government, responsible for the administration of the Buildings Ordinance on the control of new private building developments and existing private buildings. Working in the Buildings Department, she was tasked to set up various special units to meet new initiatives such as promoting green buildings, developing an internal audit system, and facilitating the adaptive reuse of heritage buildings. In recent years, she led the Department in the trial and use of new technologies such as the development of Building Information Modelling checking tools, the launch of the Electronic Submission Hub and the use of drones and artificial intelligence to survey the condition of existing buildings and unauthorised building works, while at the same time enabling the industry the adoption of new technologies. She also promoted greater collaboration with the property and facility management sectors to assist owners to enhance building safety.
Prior to joining the Government in 1996, Ms Yu worked in the private sector as an architect, responsible for the design and administration of the construction of various institutional and housing projects.
Ms Yu received the Silver Bauhinia Star Award in 2025 and is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Building and Real Estate of the Faculty of Construction and Environment of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
